Intersection of Freedom and Morality: Liberty

Walking through NE Portland I came across Liberty Street!

I did not know such a place existed. I am a huge fan of liberty.

Many people conflate liberty with freedom.

There are certainly different.

It is a fine line between freedom and anarchy.

Anarchy is freedom without exercising moral responsibility. Smashing up a coffee shop or stealing someone’s catalytic convertor is exercising freedom without consideration of moral responsibility.

It is in those less gray extremes where we struggle. Exercising rights such as presenting religious symbols in a manner that is offensive; loudly protesting facilities where perceived injustice takes place; assembling en-masse in a manner that others may perceive as intimidation towards people or government agents.

However these issues are addressed it is important it is addressed in a manner that favors liberty.
